Random guy who is massively late to the party watches animated YouTube video four years after it came out to determine if his overblown perceptions of the show as a whole might, in fact, be overblown.

Sorry about the audio glitches on this one. I've been experimenting with daily-driving Linux (OpenSUSE specifically) and it really doesn't like my USB headset (bc ofc it doesn't, it's Linux). Screen recording is also infamously bad on Linux if I'm not wrong.

-------------------------------------------------

Anyways, my day-after thoughts on the show... are mostly the same. I was going into it with this idea that it was going to be face-meltingly cringe, like I was gonna be like "OOORRGGHHH" on every other line, but once I got past the initial "eww yuck it has songs", it was perfectly fine.

The more I think about the show the less I really have to say about it honestly, because a lot of it just comes down to taste. There's a reason why the show is popular - it certainly has its flaws (like I really wish they would've had Alastor's creepiness come into play naturally or build up over time instead of having le epic I'm-14-and-this-is-edgy cutscene with him), but for every joke or idea that doesn't land, there's one that does. It's just tough because the Internet tends to make everything extreme (which is what the thumbnail and title are parodying), so the bad or out-of-context parts are really all I'd heard about this show until I actually cared enough to watch it... like Alastor put it, out of sheer boredom.

Again, like I said a bunch in the video - it's Hell. I think the vulgarity makes sense, and it works well into the setting and story. Even when it missed, it felt like the joke was on purpose and not just some misguided shock value or something. There are definitely a few points where it could've been communicated a bit more subtly and AGAIN there are certainly some cringe moments, but I thought it was handled well for the most part. The character designs can be a little eye-melting, but I figure you'd get used to it, and its (again) a matter of taste. I'm still not sure if this show is my thing, but I have a lot more respect for its fans... it's not like it's slop or anything. The production value is legitimately good and you can tell that there was a lot of care put into it.

My connection of this show to MLP was admittedly terrible since I don't know shit about either shows (lmao) so honestly you can ignore that whole part. I was trying to make some connection between that fanbase and this one to explain why people find this show so cringe but ehh. I also wonder to what extent the show itself is hated versus the idea of the "fanbase". The show isn't for everyone but I bet a lot of people are like how I was - hating without actually having watched it.

I'm writing this at 3 AM lol my brain is melting i gotta go to bed
