So now that my water garden has been up and running for more then a month now, and all the fish seem happy and acclimated to their new pond... I started working on getting my goldfish to approach the surface when people are near.

Best way to get them off the bottom and on the surface is to coax them with food. After working with them for about three days, I made this video showing my hand feeding method. Normally I would try to minimize putting my hands into contact with the fish, but the guppies / mollies are always eating the Goldfish food before the goldfish can reach them. Guppies/mollies are super active when I feed them, and it can make it a challenge for the goldfish to approach the food.

Hand feeding them this way also makes sure each individual Goldfish is receiving some of the food being offered, as a few goldfish are quite the pigs compared to the others.
