In Mega Man X2 for the SNES, it's possible to jump along the surface of water. There's really nothing to it, all you need to do is hit the jump button right as Mega Man touches the water. The timing isn't even all that picky, so you can mash the B button and still succeed in most cases.

Furthermore, when Mega Man is walking downward on a slope, his jumps will gain a slight boost in height. So if you use these two tricks in conjunction, it's possible to grab the Sub Tank in Bubble Crab's stage simply by kicking off of the wall below it, and jumping on the surface of the water. This will save you some time in a 100% collection speedrun, probably.
