If you want to experience the first true space combat flight game you might go with DOS release (available on GOG and EA store), but it has some issues - like non consistent speed - depending on the action on screen it will run too slow or too fast. Few years later all 3 WC games were re-released for Windows as Kilrathi Saga. The WC1 port is pretty solid as it introduced frame rate limiter - now the game plays at constant 24 FPS with no speed issues. KS has some flaws however - like missing planets / galaxies on the backdrops during space flight, or some issues with the music. Also running it on modern Windows is basically impossible in its vanilla state. But luckily we have a great port - WCDX which fixes all the issues and lets you enjoy the game in all its glory.
