WEAK LAUNCH LINEUP? Our thoughts on Launch Day for the Nintendo Switch
Welcome to The Basement - the friendliest place on Youtube. Let's discuss the recently confirmed games for the launch of the Switch. Mario Odyssey, Zelda - Breath of the Wild, Arms... 2 of these games look amazing! But seriously, it's a great lineup for the first year of the console.

In this video, we talk about the games that were mentioned in Nintendo's presentation, BUT ALSO we talk about several games that many were hoping for but that were NOT mentioned (Metroid, Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Mother 3, etc.). Come downstairs and have a seat with us on the couch right here in The Basement - the friendliest place on YouTube!
Breath of the Wild is a launch title - available March 3rd! Super Mario Odyssey looks much more open than recent linear Mario games - more like Mario 64 or Sunshine - and will be available Holiday 2017, so we're guessing 8 months after launch or so.
Mario Kart wasn't mentioned in the presentation, but MK8 Deluxe is confirmed for release on April 28th. In the Treehouse Live video, we saw that racers could have two items (ala Double Dash) and can support 8 player local co-op (how many consoles would that require?).
Splatoon 2 looks like a game a lot of people can get excited about. New weapons, new levels, new strategies!
ARMS and 1 2 Switch both look interesting, but are appropriately being met with skepticism by most of the people we've talked to. ARMS looks like it might FEEL amazing, but there's no way to tell without actually playing the game. 1 2 Switch has the potential to be a really fun party game (it's reminding us of how popular Wii Bowling was back when the Wii was new), but we'll see how popular it ends up being.
If the HD Rumble tech really can do things like make you feel like you're holding a glass that ice cubes are dropped into and then water is poured into... that's quite remarkable and could end up adding a really nice immersive dimension to gaming.
Nintendo and Square Enix seem to be working well together - Project Octopath Traveler looks like a really interesting brand new franchise - and pixel art (sprite based) but 3D game with nice ligthing effects - it was a unique and beautiful feel.
SKYRIM! Skyrim portable has the potential to bring back a lot of fans who were Skyrim players years ago - the ability to take the game anywhere is unprecedented.
Minecraft was shown in the trailer near the end, but not talked about. It may have been the Telltale adventure mode of the game and/or the console version of Minecraft proper (with maps as big as PS4/XB1 instead of the WiiU/PS3/360 generation.
There are other games not in the presentation at all but already confirmed, such as Shovel Knight. Hooray!
Games that were conspicuously missing: Mother 3 (Earthbound: Beyond the Story [or something]), the Mario/Rabbid hybrid game from Ubisoft (where in the world was Ubisoft??), METROID, Kirby, Yoshi, Toad, etc. NINTENDO! GET MORE GAMES, PLEASE!
Is Nintendo going to make motion controls optional in the games where it is possible? Or will they force the issue sometimes?
Since this video was made, Ultra Street Fighter II has been shown (Treehouse Live).
