WedSNESday: Let's Play ActRaiser full Episode 1 - And he was known to them as Pultch.
This week, the NPCs kick off the next big WedSNESday special series: a return to Enix's library with the timeless Platforming action/sim hybrid game - ActRaiser, where they take on the role of a recently reawakened god named Pultch., who must reclaim the world from the hands of the powerful demon Tanzra, by rebuilding humanity one country at a time - defeating the monsters that live in those lands, so that mankind can once again flourish. In the premiere episode of ActRaiser, we find ourselves in the pastoral countryside of Fillmore, thickly forested and home to the wretched Centaur Knight, first of Tanzra's minions.

ActRaiser (アクトレイザー) is a hybrid side-scrolling action and city building sim, developed by Quintet and published by Enix in 1990. It follows the story of a godling known as "The Master" (Who the NPCs have named Pletch.), on a quest to reclaim the now depopulated world after hundreds of years recovering from wounds suffered at the hands of the evil demon Tanzra (Satan, in the Japanese version). The world is divided into six countries, each populated with one of Tanzra's evil Lieutenants. He must defeat them and repopulate the world, so that he may regain his power, which relies on the faith of his people.
The game is divided neatly into 7 parts, each land with a platforming section and boss fight on either end, and a sim portion in between, where the player controls The Master's Cherub companion and watches over, and directs the rebuilding of civilization until the monster lairs in the lands can be destroyed, and the final confrontation in each begun. The game was a very successful global reliese, having sold over 620,000 copies worldwide, and has been lauded particularly for its soundtrack, composed by Yūzō Koshiro, also known for Shenmue, the Etrian Odyssey and Streets of Rage series, and many others.
WedSNESday is the Level 0 NPCs weekly series where we play one older game for one episode, just to relive the nostalgia and maybe make your hump day just a little bit more fun.
