WedSNESday: Let's Play Psycho Dream
Matt & Luke venture into the mouth of madness as they live the fever dream that is Riot/Telnet Japan's "Psycho Dream". Abandon all hope, ye who enter here! Seriously, this game is Strange with a capital S. Published in 1993 for the Super Famicom, Psycho dream tells the story of Swordsman Ryo and angelic dominatrix Maria as they attempt to free the oppressed people of 20th century Japan from the clutches of demons or something.
Psycho Dream was subject to a failed attempt to release in North America under the banner of their North American subsidiary Renovation Products, known for publishing Valis and Ys III, under the title "Dream Probe", but was never officially released to store shelves. Watch the video and you'll fully understand why. This game is a perfect example of why there's a disconnect between the games released in Japan and what can be marketed in North America.
WedSNESday is the Level 0 NPCs weekly series where we play one older game for one episode, just to relive the nostalgia and maybe make your hump day just a little bit more fun.
