Today we went over what will be on the Midterm (reviewing a bit of what we covered so far this semester), and then talked about how CPUs are made and how CPUs go through various generations, in general trying to preserve backwards compatibility so that people will buy them. Systems with no backwards compatibility (like the Itanium) are tough to sell.
