go listen to the third rates if you're an asshole like me who has a massive soft spot for ska. i like this track and last one out a ton. looking forward to when they put out the new album.
i have a lot of opinions on the niche of internet 'let's-player' culture, and not many of 'em are exactly glowing.
i'm one of those assholes who stopped watching oneyplays over half a decade ago when dd+j left - the only reason i know about the armenian cory picture is because it was everywhere for a bit, and it is pretty funny-looking. that said, however, i do think that - in addition to the time-honored (note: fuck you, i'm not spelling "honor" in the retarded canadian way) tradition of people having parasocial attachments to people on the nets - there is another fucking annoying thing about lp fans nowadays, and maybe it was always there, but i don't remember it being as bad as it is now.
i watched a ton of jon-era game grumps on repeat and then sleepycast in my day, and the original appeal with those, at least for me, was just getting to observe the personalities of people who made shit on the internet that i liked.
maybe i'm just jaded, but something about the in-jokes nowadays feel a lot more artificially-inflated-by-the-fans in a way that makes them really abrasive and annoying. the jokes of a youtuber are not the jokes of you, the individual, and if repeating them requires fucking a posteriori knowledge attained only through some weird sub-ethereal connection [sic: delusion] in order for the joke to be recited and retain its punch when enacted on another person, then there isn't any point in regurgitating it.
you get it, yeah? it feels like the appeal now for any kind of internet-group-content-thing is moreso the whole "friendship simulator" aspect instead of the "watch interesting and funny people be interesting and funny" thing, which kinda sucks, because if you enjoyed shit like that, as i did, then you're shit out of luck for options.
that's part of why i like fishtank live as a concept - because you just get to watch interesting people interact. i don't think that the ongoing season 4 is anything special, but 3 was fucking incredible. easily the best thing i've ever had the pleasure of watching on the internet, even in spite of the lows towards the end. [i say that i like fishtank 'as a concept' because it doesn't always hit super hard (COUGH COUGH jet needs to fucking stop coming on camera every day and just let the fish organically interact COUGH COUGH and they shouldn't kick people for no reason AGAIN) but when the stars line up and that shit hits, it hits like a goddamn train.]
people are interesting as shit, dude, and if you asked me, mister internet stranger, i'd tell you that i think parasocial internet relationships are born primarily from people who don't realize that there are opportunities in the real goddamn world to meet people just as interesting as the little guys in the computer screen, who should serve as nothing more than fictional entertainment at best to you. if something isn't tangible to you personally, then it isn't real. boom, motherfucker. perception is what allows conception of mind and spirit - that's real as shit, so don't fuck up your perception with shit that you can't personally understand.
or maybe i'm wrong as usual. maybe it is just simple fear or somethin'. i dunno. i used to be really scared of talking to people irl, so i get that shit, my man. i get it. i gaslit myself into being confident and it just stuck, which has been pretty helpful in developing into less of a little bitch. if you go back and read some of the older descriptions, you'll probably be able to infer that i've gone through some crazy shit and had a ton of personal revelations that changed my outlook on life over the four-five-odd-years i've been doing eggo76, and have become way more comfortable in my own skin in that time. maybe that's what needs to happen first before anyone can go out and earnestly interact with human beings.
