There were so many times in Dragon Ball Z where our heroes sacrificed their lives for everything they love.

When Chiaotzu sacrificed himself against Nappa it was a horrible moment for the Z fighters. "Remember me Tien" Chiaotzu said as he destroyed himself in an attempt to save everyone from the Saiyans. Gohan tries to look away but Piccolo tells him to watch and honor his bravery. Unfortunately Nappa survived which triggers Tien into flashbacks of his dear friend, despite being badly hurt and missing an arm Tien attempts one last attack to honor his life long friend. An attack so powerful it caught everyone off guard and Vegeta confesses that it's a shame Nappa
noticed it at the last second, other wise it probably would of worked.

Tien also now has fallen, he has given everything as Krillin cries out "Goku why aren't you here!!!!" We have seen it time and time again in Dragon Ball Z where we really could identify with the characters pain and the tremendous sacrifices they were making. One of the reasons why we identified with them is because the mortal lives we live has meaning because it has an end. As a human we only get 1 life so we have to make the most of it. So when the Earth Dragon Balls had a limit that they could only resurrect someone 1 time. It made Chiaotzu's and Tien's
sacrifice have meaning because they died knowing they couldn't be wished back.

In Dragon Ball Z they really made us feel the choices that were being made. Just like when Goku finally made the decision to give up his life to stop Cell from destroying the Earth. Goku turns and says.. Good bye, friends. Then appearing in front of Gohan he tells him to take care of his mother for him. That he had to do this! Good bye my son! Then just like that the threat vanished right before them as Goku sacrificed himself to save everyone. These moments really pulled on the heart strings, we really felt them. It was like we were there experiencing
the loss.
