Magic: The Gathering has a problem with its lore. Since the debacle that was War of the Spark, the story has been in a state of flux without a real direction to follow. As a result, the quality of story has been on the decline. What's DESTROYING the MTG story?

I make the case that its been the change to the single set block structure. In the past, stories were forged from 3 sets which acted as chapters to the blocks overall lore. Now we force all the lore, story and worldbuilding into a single self contained set. Does this hurt the story? Does it cause power creep on cards? How can we fix it?
