The Protected Audience API is designed to support an advertiser who would like to build up an audience: in other words, a group of people they want to show an ad to. Later the advertiser can target an ad to that audience as a whole—but without being able to learn the browsing behavior of any individual within that audience.

The Protected Audience API is part of the Privacy Sandbox, a series of proposals to satisfy cross-site use cases without third-party cookies or other tracking mechanisms.

Protected Audience was previously known as FLEDGE.
