The wait is finally over, The Last of Us Part 2 is out a couple of weeks now. I wanted to sit on the game for a bit so I can gather my thoughts. So here is what makes the last of us part 2 a miserable experience. I think The Last of Us 2 is a fantastic game, one of the greats on the PS4. But it creates and atmosphere that is unrivaled. I have never felt this much dread playing the game. The game evoked so much emotion and it was uncomfortable to play, but was still a great game.

A little plot synopsis SPOILER WARNING!:

After the events of the first game, Joel Miller (Troy Baker) confesses his guilt to his brother Tommy (Jeffrey Pierce). Four years later, Joel and Ellie (Ashley Johnson) have built a life in Jackson, though their relationship has become strained. While on patrol, Joel and Tommy save a stranger named Abby Anderson (Laura Bailey) from Infected and they escape a large horde, returning to an outpost run by Abby's group. Joel and Tommy are attacked by Abby's group, who are part of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), a militia group based in Seattle; Abby seeks revenge against Joel for murdering her father, a Firefly surgeon (Derek Phillips). Meanwhile, Ellie and her girlfriend Dina (Shannon Woodward) leave Jackson in search of the brothers. Ellie enters the WLF camp to witness Abby beat Joel to death, and swears revenge.

Tommy sets out for Seattle to hunt Abby, and Ellie and Dina follow him. After escaping a WLF ambush, Ellie reveals her immunity to Dina, who in turn reveals she is pregnant. The next day, Ellie pursues Tommy alone and encounters Jesse (Stephen Chang), Dina's ex-boyfriend, who followed them to Seattle. While searching for Abby's friend, Nora Harris (Chelsea Tavares), Ellie encounters the Seraphites, a religious cult locked in a years-long turf battle with the WLF over control of Seattle. Ellie tracks down Nora and tortures her for information on Abby's location, which emotionally scars Ellie. The following day, she encounters and kills two more members of Abby's group, the pregnant Mel (Ashly Burch) and her boyfriend Owen Moore (Patrick Fugit). Flashbacks interspersed up until this point reveal how Ellie, after growing frustrated at Joel's lies, traveled on horseback to the Firefly hospital in Salt Lake City to find out the truth for herself, following which she confronted Joel. He revealed the truth and Ellie, devastated, renounces him.

In the present, the group is ambushed by Abby, who kills Jesse and holds Tommy hostage. Flashing back to three days earlier, Abby learns that Owen, her ex-boyfriend, had gone missing while investigating Seraphite activity. Abby goes searching for Owen and, upon being captured by Seraphites, is rescued by Yara (Victoria Grace) and Lev (Ian Alexander), Seraphite siblings who have been branded apostates. Though Yara is gravely injured, Abby leaves them to find Owen who, disillusioned with the war, plans to sail to Santa Barbara, California, where the Fireflies are supposedly regrouping. Abby decides to rescue Yara and Lev, and travels across the city with Lev to retrieve medical supplies from the WLF hospital so Mel can amputate Yara's arm.

A year later, Ellie and Dina are living on a farm, raising Dina and Jesse's son, though Ellie suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder. When Tommy arrives with information on Abby's whereabouts, Ellie leaves to find her, despite Dina's pleas. Meanwhile, Abby and Lev arrive in Santa Barbara searching for the Fireflies, but are captured by the slave-keeping Rattlers. Ellie arrives and rescues the pair, who have been tortured and left to die. Threatening to kill Lev, Ellie forces Abby to fight her, during which Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers. Ellie eventually overpowers her but lets her live when she recalls a more hopeful memory of her last conversation with Joel, in which she promised to try to forgive him. Abby and Lev sail to the Fireflies. Ellie returns to the farmhouse and finds it empty. She tries to play Joel's guitar, but struggles with her missing fingers. She leaves the guitar at the farm and walks away.
