I've always enjoyed videos that are just someone talking about a rather specific aspect of their interests for a bit (example channels that come to mind include pannenkoek2012, kkclue, PatMac, etc.). I've always wanted to try making a vid like that, so I'm glad I can check it off my bucket list!
That being said, I can't wait to get back to making shorter stuff now that this is finally done ^^; I started collecting data for this vid back in December, which means it took 8-9 months to complete (though actual video production didn't start until the end of February). I remember having so many thoughts about the process during those months, but now that it's time to actually log them here I find myself w/ not much to say, haha
Ironically, I missed a lot of Splatoon 3's sizzle season b/c I was busy working on this. If you'll excuse me I'm gonna go read the patch notes lol
EDIT: NVM I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY NOW I usually write these descriptions _before_ starting the upload process to YT. However, b/c this is my longest vid to date I guess it also marks my first time having to battle w/ the compression YT applies to video files to make them quicker & easier to serve to viewers. I had no prior knowledge of this, so my first .mp4 file unfortunately included a lot of things that the compressor apparently hates.
For example the original backdrop, which can be seen in a community post, was made of many overlapping but similar dark hues, which is something the compressor struggles w/. As a result it turned the backdrop into a blurry mess (main video elements like characters & graphics were still perfectly crisp, though). After numerous failed attempts at optimizing, re-exporting, & re-uploading, I eventually caved & redrew the backdrop to the simpler 'frame' design you see here. At least if _it_ gets blurred, that mess won't be too close to the main material.
Additionally, I think the 'wiggling' effect on the animated characters' lineart & some text was also contributing to the issue. While I like the look it gives, it probably adds a lot of unnecessary information to the video file, since frames have to be updated even when things are technically standing still.
So yeah, next time I ask myself why I don't see many videos that make these stylistic choices, I guess now I know the answer ^^;
I wish I could remember if my previous vids had worse quality before being made public. If this vid's blurriness goes away when it debuts, I guess I'll be happy about it, but probably also a bit miffed since that means I could've used the original file :/
Uwargh I don't wanna end this description on such a downer note. Um, recently I saw someone in a Pokemon raid w/ an Azumarill nicknamed Hopscotch & I thought that was cute ^^
