It feels like more recent Pokemon games have made it easier for average players to stumble upon shinies. I mean, I've been playing my whole life & it wasn't until Gen 8's post game that I ever encountered one (it was a Cloyster). Finding shinies was even easier in Arceus, which I heard was intentional.
So, I guess the devs decided they didn't want to make things _too_ easy & removed the sound effect for shinies in Scarlet & Violet. As a result, it's pretty common to see players engage a pokemon "just in case" only to find out it was a funky color b/c of the overworld lighting. While it's funny & relatable every time, I do hope the sound effect gets patched back in so everyone can have some peace of mind ^^;
