What We Do In The Shadows | SCHiM (Gorgeous 3D Platformer Exploration Game)
90SCHiM is a beautiful game about shadows. We play as a lost shadow who has to find the way back to their human before it's too late!
However, because we're a shadow we can only move about in other shadows. Fortunately we're quite good at jumping so we can jump from shadow to shadow to move around the world. Sometimes the shadows are static but sometimes they're moving, for example the shadow cast by a moving car, so we have to jump in at the right time and then jump out at the right moment too!
This then leads to some quite fiendish puzzles as we venture about the world, leaping between shadows, making use of the environment around us to progress. At points we have to interact with the world around us, turning lights on or off for example, to help us keep moving.
There's also some wonderful storytelling going on as we go through life with our human, starting off when they're just a kid with no cares in the world, then we see them growing up, going to school, getting a girlfriend, getting a job, it's all done in such a lovely way. However things take a bit of a turn for the worse for our human and eventually we get separated, hence the need for us to make our way back to them!
Also the visuals in the game are stunning, just lovely minimalistic worlds with some fantastic colour schemes that are also part of the storytelling. It's a beautiful game.
Oh, and finally, schim is Dutch for Shadow, and I do try to pronounce schim as it would be said in Dutch, but I'm not sure how well I did so apologies to the Dutch if I've said it all wrong!
