213Today Mojang released Minecraft 1.9 Pre-release 1 - a snapshot pre-release for the Combat Update - Minecraft 1.9. This update contains balancing to shields and the Ender Dragon fight, as well as some bug fixes.

If you want to play this pre-release, edit your profile in the minecraft launcher and check the "use development versions (snapshots)" checkbox. Keep in mind that snapshots are unstable - they can break your world if you are unlucky - keep backups!
