The KDE Project released today KDE Plasma 5.20.3 as the third maintenance update to the latest KDE Plasma 5.20 desktop environment series with another layer of bug fixes to further improve stability and reliability.
Coming only two weeks after KDE Plasma 5.20.2, the KDE Plasma 5.20.3 update is here with more than 30 bug fixes and other changes, including a fix for switching of users to work again when invoking the action, which is now visible in the Kickoff Application launcher, along with all the shutdown options, for users with Linux distros using an older systemd version. KDE Plasma 5.20.3 also addresses a crash in the Plasma Wayland session, which was improved for laptop users to immediately wake up the system when opening the lid instead of having to also press a key on the keyboard, as well as some minor visual glitches with the “Sliding Popups” effect used for various Plasma panel widgets. Improvements were also made to System Settings’ Window Rules page, which no longer automatically scrolls itself after a new rule is created, as well as the “Highlight Changed Settings” feature, which now remembers its on or off state when closing and re-opening System Settings. More, it’s now possible to toggle the on/off state by double-clicking on “Highlight Changed Settings” button. Support for Electron apps was improved as well in KDE Plasma 5.20.3 to make their icons better visible in the system tray area, support for Plasma Icon applets that point to locations instead of applications now works as expected, and the Plasma Discover package manager no longer automatically opens at login if it wasn’t closed during logout. Also worth mentioning is the fact that KDE Plasma 5.20.3 fixes the speed graph in the NetworkManager applet’s to no longer show a high spike in data transfer, which messed up the graph scale for all subsequent data, as well as a memory leak in the KSysGuard utility, which occurred when the app was left open for long periods of time. Last but not least, this update fixes full-screen screenshot support on GLES, fixes a segfault in KWin::WindowPixmap::shape, only allows multi key shortcuts for standard shortcuts, fixes Plasma Disks to actually erase devices, and restores empty filename check in KWin. For more details about all the changes included in this update, you can check out the full changelog for further watching. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the stable software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution for the KDE Plasma 5.20.3 packages and update your installations as soon as they’re available. The next point release to the KDE Plasma 5.20 desktop is scheduled for December 1st. In the meantime, the KDE Project is working hard on the next major release of their popular Linux desktop environment, KDE Plasma 5.21, which promises more exciting new features and improvements.
