Something really strange is going on with Sega.
They are taking down some of their digital re-releases of classic Sega games including the awesome SEGA® Genesis Classics™ and you should move fast to get them while you still can.
It started last week when it came out that they were going to be de-listing and removing some classic games from PC marketplace Steam. The upcoming date for the mass purging of Sega games is going to be December 6th and that is coming up sooner than you think
Some of these were ports of Sega Dreamcast games such as Space, channel 5 part two, bass, fishing, and crazy taxi but also jet grind radio and the port of nights into dreams that previously were released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 digital stores.
But what's really troubling is I just found out today that they are going to be taking down the Sega Genesis Mega Drive classic collection for Nintendo switch, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. This also works on Xbox series and PlayStation 5. Now. This is a really really great collection of classic Sega Genesis games and I've liked it for years. It also has online gameplay and a bunch of really cool features such as a virtual 3D room and international versions of some of the games that are on there. It is some of the easiest ways to play the Japanese version, the streets of rage. 3 among other great Sega games
So my theory as to why this is going to happen is hopefully they are going to announce a new line of collections of classic Sega games for modern consoles and hopefully this will also include Dreamcast and Sega Saturn games.
Now I am a retro game nerd who has access to all of these on original Hardware, but these were some really great ports and They were very accessible collections to gamers that had modern Game systems and not classic Hardware.
Sega owes it to their fans to explain just exactly WHY SEGA® Genesis Classics are going to be pulled from the digital stores on December 6th, which again! is less than a month away.
There was a physical release of the SEGA® Genesis Classics for Switch, PS4 and Xbox, I doubt they are going to be making any new physical copies but you really should consider getting SEGA® Genesis Classics before it is taken down from the digital stores. I have it digitally for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It is currently just $30 and is well worth it, you totally should get it while you still can, And if you are down with Steam Get the Dreamcast Collection while you still can
