When Iraqi MiG-29 Crashed While Chasing US F-15 Eagle In 1991 #shorts
On January 17, 1991, twelve F-15 Eagle jets were on the search for Scud locations that were close to the H-2 airbase. They had several radar contacts from two MiG-29 Fulcrums and three MiG-23 Floggers when they were around eighty miles from H-2. The Iraqi aircraft moved to intercept the F-15s after determining their location. However, none of the US pilots intended to shoot unless it was absolutely necessary in order to conceal their positions. One MiG-29 Fulcrum dropped from the F-15 formation's left flank. The MiG-29 was detectable on the radar of one F-15 crew. It was attempting to roll in on the F-15E around six miles ahead of him without being aware of this F-15 Strike Eagle. However, it suddenly crashed to the ground and blew up. The MiG pilot was actually attempting to link to the F-15 while it was traveling at 600 knots and 100 feet above the ground. He simply fell too low and crashed because it was completely dark and had no light. The other MiG-29 then fired a missile, accidentally hitting one of the Floggers, according to the pilots' analysis of all the HUD FLIR tapes after the flight.
