Tim Burton's Batman 1989 movies usher in a new age of Superhero movies. Batman was cool again. But also dark and weird and hard to market to children. Warner Brothers were underwhelmed with the performance and reception of Batman Returns but they weren't the only ones. Big brands like McDonalds were also unimpressed and helped paved the way for a different more family friendly version of Batman
