Comets originate in the Oort cloud, a vast region of the solar system located about 50,000 Astronomical Units from the sun. This region is populated by billions of icy bodies, remnants of the solar system's formation. When a comet is deflected from its orbit in the Oort cloud, it travels toward the sun. As it gets closer, the ice on its surface sublimates and forms a luminous tail. In conclusion, comets are celestial bodies of ice, rock, and dust from the Oort cloud.
