Which are the Best Alien & Aliens Video Games? Some Alien Franchise Games are Great, Others Suck!
What are the best Alien / Aliens video games? We're sticking to the franchises and here we're having a little chat about some of the best games from the Aliens and Predator franchise.
Alien Isolation, PC
Aliens: Colonial Marines is always first to mind with Alien video games, but Alien Isolation is the most recent game on this list. It's probably the most familiar Alien video game to the majority of you. What Alien Isolation does differently to basically every other Alien franchise game, is it's a reflection of Alien, not Aliens. An absolute masterpiece of hide and seek, Alien Isolation toys with you horribly. Giving you Dirty Harry's gun, the .357 Magnum, but it's useless. When we played Alien Isolation pre-release at a games expo, if you completed the demo level you were given a limited edition Alien comic. There was no chance of Raff winning that, as after 5 minutes he just straight up refused to look at the screen and only had 1 headphone cup on his head. Genuinely terrifying, a classic spookfest.
Alien 3, SNES
Unpopular opinion time - Matt's favourite Alien film is Alien 3. The Alien 3 video game should have been a hard game to make, considering the film only had the one alien and was set in a prison with no guns. Balls to that, said the game developer. Loads of Aliens, loads of guns! The SNES version of the Alien 3 game was a different game to the Genesis title. No matter what the footage looks like, this was actually the slower and more atmospheric of the 2 Alien 3 games. I really like the graphics in Alien 3, the game is doing the best with what it's got. And mate, you are not going to believe the ending.
Alien vs Predator, PC.
The 2000 Alien vs Predator PC game by Sierra is wicked. You can play as 3 different characters; The Predator uses wrist blades and energy weapons, can go invisible and use the different vision modes, like the Predator films. Aliens can climb the environment freely, they use no weapons as such, but their tail, jaws and claws to attack. As the Marine, you're up against it and can only rely on guns and flares. The PC game has aged well, it's still good to play today.
Alien Trilogy, Sega Saturn
Here is our rubbish game. There's always one game you remember being good. We both had wicked memories of Alien Trilogy, but as we played Alien Trilogy for the video, we realised we were wrong wrong wrong. Alien Trilogy is Nostalgia goggles at it's finest. I remember this being the tits, but oh my days is it not.
Alien vs Predator, Arcade
So if you want to play this absolute arcade banger mate you've got 2 choices - Go back to the mid 90's in your time machine, or emulate this cabinet beast. We don't condone piracy, nor disrupting the fabric of space time, so you are on your own. This was the 'good' Capcom era, and they absolutely crushed it with this title, And along probably my favourite coin op, "The Punisher". It's almost Arcade beat em up perfection. If you've played anything like Streets of Rage, which of course everyone and their mum has, you already know the lineup. 4 playable characters - fast, balanced or What was good fun though, was that random 3 player setup. So you've got Dutch from Predator, who is now a cyborg; 2 Predators (A warrior and hunter), and Linn, another cyborg using the super gentlemanly Katana. It was based on the original Alien vs Predator script and was meant to be a tie in to the movie. However, that film draft was rejected, but Capcom had already made the game so they stuck AvP out as a stand alone. The story doesn't matter, fight Xenomorphs / save world, but basically you just kick seven bells out of the Alien scum. Beautiful, beautiful game.
