Why BioShock & Borderlands are on Switch
BioShock: The Collection, Borderlands: The Collection, and XCOM2 Collection release on the Nintendo Switch this week, which leads to the completely logical question: how is that even possible? How do three collections of big, meaty AAA games designed for PC and HD consoles run on a device you can fit into your pocket?
The answer is Virtuos Games, the incredibly impressive company that specialises in creating high quality ports. Against all odds, the studio has ported a variety of games to the Switch, and now adds these BioShock, XCOM, and Borderlands collections to their catalogue.
Learning about the kind of work performed by Virtuos is fascinating: a team of 1,600 creators all over the world have come together to create Switch ports that otherwise wouldn't be possible, crushing huge games down to the point that they fit on the Switch - although not, of course, onto a cartridge.
Virtuos has also ported The Outer Worlds to the Switch, which we may or may not cover in the future. To be honest, this game has caused us a bit of a challenge - Kotor is supposed to be reviewing it for Nintendo Force magazine, but the PR company that's been hired to promote the game in Europe has been somewhat less than professional in their correspondence with him. Fingers crossed it all works out as the game looks great!
Anyway, we hope you're staying safe at this tumultuous time.
Lots of love,
