Catherine: Full Body is now on Switch. For some reason. Despite all the cries among fans for Persona games on the Nintendo console, Atlus has instead given us a weird sort-of spin-off that is most certainly an unusual fit for Nintendo's generally family-friendly public image. Bayonetta notwithstanding.

So why Catherine? Because the game has, from the beginning, been Atlus' experimental, weird title, often used to test things out in anticipation of work on Persona games. We're not just talking about Catherine releasing on PC a year before Persona 4, although that does factor into it. In reality, the original Catherine was something of a test project for Atlus and Team Persona before they began work on Persona 5. Considering the challenge in making a Persona game for HD consoles, Catherine was devised as an opportunity to practice detailed textures and realistic character model animation in anticipation of working on a 100 hour roleplaying game.

This being the case, and considering that Catherine won a dedicated fanbase of its own, it's not surprising that the game is also used by Atlus to test the water for new publishing platforms, such as Steam. It doesn't hurt that, unlike Persona games, Catherine was devised from the start as a multi-platform game, having launched on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

We're not saying that Catherine: Full Body guarantees that Persona games will be coming to Switch in the near future. We're simply saying that Atlus likes to use the game as a test subject of sorts, and it'll be interesting to see what happens next...

Anyway, stay safe! We love you!
