Why do I NOT build in wetlands? | PAX AUGUSTA | Realistic Roman City-builder | Ep.14
Hello there, all you wonderful people, and welcome to another episode of An Ecologist Plays, where we talk about nature while playing games. This is the second (of four) part of the live stream I had on 1 June 2025 of the Roman city-builder, Pax Augusta. Developed by one person (with some input from others for specialist tasks), this game brings Roman civilization to life. Now, it should be easy to build a city, right? Not if you are trying to build as ecologically-sustainable as possible! So, here's my challenge: I am not allowed to build in floodplains or wetlands, have to set out areas for conservation, and have to maintain corridors within my city for animals to move through. Can I still build a thriving city despite these restrictions? Let's find out!
In this part of the live stream, I delve into the significance of wetlands, and the reasons why I do not build there (and why I also am keeping an area undeveloped between the hill and the woodland.
I live stream every Sunday 18:00-20:00 South African time (UTC+2), so join me then for some nice, relaxing, educational streams.
