Why Graham Potter was a plausible alternative to Erik ten Hag
What if Graham Potter became Manchester United manager?
May 8, 2013: the date that an empire crumbled when Sir Alex Ferguson ended his near 27-year odyssey at Old Trafford.
Today, Manchester United haven’t won a league title since Ferguson’s retirement and have rattled through managers at an alarming pace from David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.
Success has largely remained out of grasp, a dozen world class managers also out of reach.
To end this week we go down three alternative paths of managers who could have warmed the seat at Old Trafford. From Mauricio Pochettino’s incessant links to the club, to Zinedine Zidane refusing the job in 2021 and, conversely, United refusing to chase Graham Potter last summer.
