Why Is It So Tough To Go To Saturn? How Long Would It Take Us To Go There?
Hey everyone, listen to this... According to NASA, within less than a century, humans could land on Jupiter, and in about 130 years, on Saturn! This comes from a study that analyzed tens of thousands of articles on space exploration and the level of technology needed for space missions. Using the collected data, the authors created a model that estimates the most likely dates for launching manned missions from cislunar space, an area between Earth and the Moon from which humans could depart to reach other planets.
The closest manned mission is, of course, Mars in 2038, followed by a visit to the main asteroid belt (between Mars and Jupiter) between 2071 and 2087, and a landing on one of Jupiter's major moons between 2101 and 2121. The last to receive human visitors will be Saturn, which, if all goes as planned, will be reached between 2129 and 2153.
And it's Saturn that we want to talk about now—mainly to try to understand together how long it would take to reach the planet with current technology, and then with the technology we might have in over a century. There are many starting variables, but in the end, it all boils down to one thing: "nuclear energy." Unless we discover something better...
