There have been so many iterations of the Clown Prince over the years and everyone has their own opinion on which is best. But whether you prefer the animated version or a live action one, the Joker movie directed by Todd Phillips is so unforgettable and it’s not hard to see why. Jack Nicholson’s version from 1989’s Batman also included an origin story but he never really came across as relatable. Many people consider Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight to be the best, and we won’t argue otherwise. But it’s amazing how Joaquin Phoenix managed to incorporate so many elements we love about the character and give a totally new performance that didn’t feel like something we’ve seen before. Jared Leto’s portrayal of the character was. . .well, he really had the deck stacked against him! But looking at what went wrong helps highlight what Joker did so well. We’ll also talk about how he got into character for the role and what it takes to get the perfect laugh and why it was such an important part of preparing for the part.
