Why Kylian Mbappe should be a Real Madrid player
13It was supposed to be a done deal, it was supposed to be the worst kept secret in the transfer rumour mill of summer 2022: to the extent I have already put out a video called “What if Kylian Mbappe stayed at PSG”.
Then Mbappe went and spoiled it all by signing on for another three years in Paris.
He will remain at PSG on a staggering £1m a week contract, with a signing on bonus of £100m as well as his image rights retained not by the club but by himself. Monetarily there wasn’t much difference between the packages set out by PSG and Real Madrid, but with infinitely more power in Paris, Mbappe remains in his hometown.
Real Madrid are the reigning European champions, whilst PSG are the perennial failures in the Champions League. Would he have ushered in another three-peat whilst at Real Madrid, or is he better attempting to win Paris’ first European Cup?
