When we think of Hollywood icons, we tend to think of the stars who appear on the big screen - from Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant to Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep - as well the iconic directors who create the movies, like Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg and Spike Lee.
But there's another kind of Hollywood star that's less recognisable by their face, but instantly recognisable in another way - by their voice.
Movie trailer voice-over artists have been introducing us to new movies for as long as we can remember - and none have ever been more iconic than Don LaFontaine.
On Friday, August 22, 2008, however, LaFontaine passed away following complications from a pneumothorax, ten days after being admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with a pulmonary embolism.
Since then, movie trailers have never been the same.
In this video, we'll be looking at why that's the case, by looking at the life and career of the legendary Don LaFontaine in some detail.
Some of the movie trailers LaFontaine provided the voice-over for include Friday the 13th, The Terminator, Masters of the Universe, RoboCop, Die Hard, Home Alone, Batman Returns, Speed, Scream, Space Jam, Con Air, Bride of Chucky, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, Shrek, and The Simpsons Movie.
