Ness's inclusion of the character in Super Smash Bros Melee, has always been a low tier character. Never really succeeding that well in the meta due to many flaws the character has. Whether its his stubby limbs, lack of consistent KO moves, and just overall not competeing well with the fast paced environment of the Melee meta. Ness in Project M/Project Plus was changed overall making the character a way more competitively viable character that can compete in the meta.
