Zelda in the earliest days of the meta, was seen as a decent character because of her ability to transform into a much better character, Sheik (lol). However as the years went on, people slowly began to realize that Zelda is not a strong character on her own, and she has a lot of negatitives that have led her to being the 3rd worst character in the game, mainly having to do with her lack of speed, and having a pretty lackluster moveset. In Project M, Zelda was fleshed out and has a much more divined character archetype, which is why the character has much better placements competitively in Project M/Project Plus compared to her tournament results in Melee.
