Why the f-15 came into being? In order to understand this you have to go back to Vietnam war, when U.S. air force along with U.S army was getting pounded. The U.S. air force's problem was inadequate planes. They were getting losses from North Vietnam's small, fast and agile dog fighter the Mig-21. In December of 1968, U.S gathered at the Pentagon in Washington D.C, for a new weapons program to procure a fighter jet that can shoot any Soviet plane down from the sky. They got their wish in the form of F-15 on June 26th 1972, when McDonnell Douglas rolled out the jet at their plant in saint louis, Missouri.
