Why WAS Breaker the Magical Warrior BANNED in the Past?
7,412Breaker the Magical Warrior was once banned in pre-synchro ygo. This card simply has the effect to destroy 1 spell/trap by removing the spellcounter it places on itself. Now the reason this was so crazy strong, was because people still used battle traps and battle tricks as part of just normal decks, so being able to destroy them before entering the battlephase was a premium effect. And effect so premium, cards like MST (Mystical Space Typhoon) were limited to 1 copy for also only destroying 1 card. However, breaker had a body attached to its MST effect, one that didnt require a tribute, and also had premium stats. After it lost its spellcounter it would have 1600 atk, which was just enough to beat over all the recruiters, who all had less than 1500 attack and were used very frequently in classic ygo. So in this metagame, Breaker was not only a staple that everyone played, it was kind of a broken staple that just did too much all at once. Which is why it was constantly on and off the banlist in early ygo formats.
