Wii Fit Plus is Still a Masterpiece!! (A Game that is Worth Purchasing To This Day!!) - FGR
Script:
Wii Fit Plus is everything the First Wii Fit was, plus more! Maybe that’s why they called it that… Miyamoto, you genius!
[Jack Intro]
For information on the original Wii Fit, please watch my review of that. This will focus solely on the changes to the update made fifteen years ago. With over twenty-two million copies sold, Wii Fit was a smash hit. Everybody was playing Wii Fit so much that people started to realize… there wasn’t that much content in the game. That’s when Nintendo decided to whip up Wii Fit Plus, an enhanced version featuring many additional games, activities, and features. All this for just an additional twenty dollars if bought stand-alone, and this version replaced the original for the bundle. Selling twenty-one million copies, this DLC upgrade was a major smash and is something I loved in my Childhood. For you guys watching, I already said Wii Fit is the GOAT of fitness gaming, and this is just more. If you haven’t returned to this classic in a while, do so now!
With all this said, I will give my opinion on all the new content. There are six new yoga and strength training games and a calorie counter that even games these days don’t have. There is also the ability to create custom exercises and a whole new training plus section. There’s more content than that I will go into in a bit which adds more icing to the delicious fitness cake.
The Training Plus section includes fifteen brand new games, these range from enhancements of already existing mini-games such as basic run plus. You have to run in place, which causes your character to run. Then you must memorize certain aspects of the path you are running on in Wuhu Island. Another addition is the Balance Bubble game with Balance Bubble Plus. You must still get your character to the end in time, but the new level is much harder. There are more obstacles, a dark session, and more. I love both of these mini-games, and both are basically replacements for the originals.
In addition to upgrades, there is a slew of brand-new mini-games in the Training Plus section to tackle. My favorite of the bunch is Birds Eye, Bulls Eye. You’re Mii gets dressed up as a chicken. You have to flap your arms like a bird to land on different targets for more time. Your overall time, in the end, turns into your points for victory. This one has more levels requiring you to scale up a volcano to go towards a blimp in the sky. I love Wuhu Island, so any game that takes place in this world gets a big bonus for me. It’s not that intense of a workout, but it’s unique and fun enough that you work out a sweat without noticing.
[One more mini-game if needed for length]
I still plan on putting out a video ranking every single game and exercise in all of the Wii Fits shortly. I’ll save my judgment of all the mini-games till then. But just know that the Training Plus section is worth the admission price alone. Especially since you can go to the local Goodwill or resale store and pick up a copy for a dollar.
As mentioned before, there are new Yoga and strength training games tied into this game as well. The three new yoga moves are spine extension, gate, and ground V. All three are a bit more intense, with Grounded V being one that I do not have the ab strength to complete. I do have the strength to do the three new strength training games, with Balance Bridge, Side Lunge, and Single-Leg Reach all being great choices.
There is a slew of other new features that deserve more recognition. For example, you can now weigh your pets and babies! I used this as a kid to record my chonker of a cocker spaniel growing up. We were supposed to help him lose weight, but instead, my siblings and I would feed him the dinner scraps that we hated but were forced to eat. Oh man, the memories. As a side tangent, please don’t force your kids to eat everything off of their plates. That’s one of the very many reasons why we are so dang fat as Americans.
You can add calorie goals you want to hit alongside the time spent playing goals to force that weight off. They calculate calories burned for each exercise based on your weight which is pretty nice. You can add favorite exercises and even make your own routines. Before, you used to be stuck with your Mii, but now you can switch it out if you make a mistake. METs, standing for Metabolic Equivalent Tasks, have also been added to all exercises. This gives you a quick idea of how intense an exercise will be. To explain further, a single MET equals the energy you spend sitting. So, a game like Jogging Plus is equivalent to five METs or five times the energy of sitting. It’s a nice feature that the developers added as a way for us fat people to quickly ignore certain exercises…
