I have seen people doing YouTube Videos all my life and wanted to create some too. Hence why this channel exists. I have just one problem, I am pretty bad at reading scripts. I feel like my delivery is wooden, and I don't express as much as I'd like to. I made this reference in my video titled "Obese Man Does Planks for 5 Minutes Every Day". In that video, Subscriber B Space C commented that reading aloud for thirty minutes daily improved my speaking voice. That was such a good idea that I immediately got to work getting started with the challenge. If you're reading that comment now… please note that the rest of the suggested videos will also be coming out.
With the challenge proposed, it's time to outline my task. I want to read a book out loud every single day for sixty days. Originally, I did thirty-day challenges, but there weren't that much drastic results, so I upped how long I do challenges from thirty to sixty. With that, I will lower my goal of speaking from thirty minutes to twenty minutes. With my usual days off, I will read out loud for fifty-one days out of the sixty. That leaves me speaking for seventeen hours over the course of the sixty days. With that said, I got to work making my outline and started reading. Here is me speaking on Day One. You'll hear these clips between the explanations for about a minute and ten seconds.
[Day 1]
My goal in this challenge was to get through reading at least one book. With my goal set, I started the challenge on November first twenty twenty-two and finished on December thirtieth. Just in time to get ready for New Year's celebration. My new year's goal was to read five books, so this challenge came right on time to help me almost reach it. Spoiler alert, I did not reach my new year's goal since the only time I did read was for this challenge. The books that I wanted to read were The Art of Manliness by Brett McKay and I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. I've made my love for the Art of Manliness known far and wide by all. I also used to love iCarly back when it came out when I was in junior high. Man, I am old now. Here's Ms. McCurdy's book now
[Day 14]
For both of these books would recommend reading them. Art of Manliness is obviously more geared towards self-improvement, but Jennet's book also taught me about the therapy process and understanding grief. Both of these books are easy recommendations for me. Other books I read during this time are Cracked.com De-Textbook. It's a parody textbook teaching about the real side of Science and History. This book gave me video Ideas such as "Yoga Ball as a Desk Chair" and more possible future videos. It's more of a choose whatever topic you want to learn about kind of thing and made a s a great filler. I will tell you about a horrible book I read next after Day 24.
[Day 24]
The absolute worst book that I have probably ever read was titled "Men Love Bitches”. It was a horrible misandry about how men love women who are dumb and don't listen to them. I read it for like a few days and stopped after a few chapters. Seriously, the top highlights of the book from Kindle Readers are "Words are not needed to teach a man how to treat you. A little bit of silence or distance will often do the trick," as if not talking about issues in a relationship works. It's a viewpoint of 2002 relationships that do not hold the test of time in today's more progressive and, let's be honest, fair society. I get the core concept that women shouldn't make sacrifices for relationships in the early stages. It's one that I agree with personally. However, the tone of the book is just awful and not worth reading.
[Day 36]
My experience doing this challenge was a weird one. I haven't really read out loud books since they made you do so in Jr high. I didn't like it then, and I don't like it now. During the process, my throat hurt like hell. Between this and talking a ton at work, it's just not a good time. I had to down throat-drops in between speaking. However, I do feel that I got more and more comfortable reading text by partaking in this challenge. You can compare day one with me reading the awful book now on day sixty.
[Day 60]
I really feel there is a difference in my annunciation between the two days. That is especially true considering how much my throat was hurting and the awful book I was reading. Overall, this was a positive experience that has improved my speaking to this day. I feel like I have to make fewer cuts with my in-person video when compared to my earlier content. I am still now where I would like to be in terms of my voice residence, my annunciation of words, and overall tonal range, but it's a start....
