Well, it's time to wrap up my budget fitness month by discussing the game that started the Just Dance Trend, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV. What's the story behind that? Well, watch my review of this Nintendo Wii Classic.

[Intro]

Rayman Raving Rabbids TV party is up there with the original Rayman Raving Rabbids for the best Mini-game collection on the system. Like the previous ones, this puppy is a story. The idea is that the Rabbids have taken over Raymans' TV and run the programming block on different channels. You must play through a day's worth of mini-games on these channels to get Rayman angry enough to mash open the TV. That will free the Rabbids, and they shall begin taking over the world again! You may notice that the story has gotten worse, along with Rayman not being playable in this game. That sucks, but it's made up by its awesome theming and plot device.

The channels host a group of programs which will be our mini-games to complete. For example, Groove On is a dancing channel with beloved dancing Mini-games. The cult movies channel is based on different movie themes. It features shooting games and other parody mini-games. X-Tam Sports features a parody of sporting tv shows featuring games where you must slide down a mountain… to the extreme! All the channels and pre-game cutscenes are based on the premise of parodying TV channels. Again, it's done very well, and including these well-animated TV bumpers and segments makes the presentation pop. It's easily the best-themed game in the series. Not much, considering the first one is just dark, and the second game is… mall travel agent theme.

The developers take the TV concept further by introducing commercials. You may get randomly prompted to press a button if you are not doing well on a mini-game. From there, an animated short will play, and you must follow the prompt at the right time. In doing so, you get an extra benefit to boost your score. For example, [127 16:10] I was playing this shooting game where you have to draw the shapes and was doing okay but not great. The advert popped up, and I followed along with the prompt. That gave me a super shot to clear out the field. These come in handy and saved me a few times.

That brings me to the mini-games in this collection. Honestly, there are some great ones in this installment. They brought back the idea of progression by having multiple rounds of each mini-game… a great Idea and something sorely missed in the easier second game. [123 1:05] The mini-game playing behind me is MegaBalls. The concept is that you have turned into a bouncing ball that can swing around by swinging the Wii remote. You move around with the nunchuck and have to collect these glowing balls. The field moves automatically, so you must jump on platforms and dodge lasers to get enough points to unlock gear. It's a great time that is made better through multiplayer. My wife had tons of fun playing this one with me.

Speaking of costumes, this game actually utilizes the costumes through a mini-game titled Pimp My Rabbid. The game pops up a description of what it wants you to dress as, and you follow it. Depending on how close you are to its description is your point value. I didn't play the game long enough to get enough costumes to be able to beat the challenge, so I didn't bother recording It or beating it. I just thought it was an incredibly unique idea and makes collecting the costumes more than just a completionist goal. I know I just covered two sections, but there are many more.

Some mini-games even use the Wii Balance board, which is great! It definitely adds some challenges to these collections. My favorite one evolving the Balance board is "Mount Beehind" [Encode 123 – 4:36]. You sit on the balance board and move the weight around your but to glide the Rabbid down as fast as possible.

The shooting mini-game in this one is a bit better than the previous game but isn't a main focus like in the first game. There are just two shooting games that are broken down into two patterns for each. They are parodies of zombie and sci-fi films on the Cult Movies channel. Your goal is to shoot as many rabbids that don't fit the scene as the director tells you. Going over grants you a bigger bonus, as does carrying a combo. I like these additions as they make it worthwhile to not shoot randomly or at random stuff. However, I wish there were more than two levels spread across four mini-games. Give me at least a full channel of shooting game developers! Also, I loved the had grip in the first game as a defense for when you need to reload. That's just another thing taken away from the first game.
