Wild Arms 2 (1999, PS1/PSX Gameplay 2020)
Wild Arms 2: 2nd Ignition is a 2D/3D Jrpg that was released on the PSX/PS1 in 1999, developed by Contrail, and Media.Vision, and published Sony Computer Entertainment. This is the 2nd game in the Wild Arms (Wild ARMs) series of games, and many fans agree that this is the best one out of the entire franchise.
A few changes were made for this 2nd game, you now have a party of 6 people but only really get to see the back story focus on three, Ashley, Lilka, and Brad. The world, Filgaia, has changed slightly since the first game it has become more steam-punky / Sci-Fi, but still holds that over all theme of a western cowboy setting.
The game follows Ahsley, Lilkam and Brad as they journey to join an Anti-Terrorist group known as ARMS; they are responsible for hunting down and stopping the world terrorist group known as Odessa from overtaking the world as a supreme power.
What can I say, this game does everything right and then even more some, to the point where I agree with fans of this series that THIS was much better than the 1st game and issues people had with the 1st one were ironed out and implemented within this game.
Graphically, this game kicks ass over the first game, areas look better, character designs look better, monster and boss designs look a lot better. The only thing really that I wasn't to happy about was the very short and not so great animated beginning cutscene.
The game is accompanied by another fantastic OST but in MY opinion was not as great as the 1st game's OST, many would probably disagree with me, each to their own I guess. The game's sound effects for magic, skills, ARM attacks, monster attacks, etc. all sound great and match the situation it is used in.
Would I recommend this game now? YES! there's NO doubt about it that it's rare to find a game in a franchise that's better than the original game, and especially in the RPG genre. This game does everything right and better than the 1st game, so I definitely recommend you play this game.
