I'd long seen pictures of this arcade game, but never actually played it. I really should have tried it sooner, because it is an excellent run and gun shooter! It's based on an animated TV series, although unlike TMNT, I don't believe it was ever shown in the UK.
Despite being unfamiliar with the source material, it certainly didn't prevent me from enjoying the game; it's a total blast. It boasts stellar production values, with top quality graphics, animation and sound. This carries over to the gameplay, which felt far more balanced than a lot of other coin-op titles.
Sadly, the game never got released outside of the arcades, and since the show never had the appeal of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, nor received the same level of exposure, it's not a game I ever recall seeing in the wild. It's definitely one of the best examples of the genre, so do yourself a favour and go play Wild West C.O.W. Boys!
