how to fix Windows update error 0x800f080a:

.Check your internet connection: Make sure your internet connection is stable and working properly. A poor internet connection can cause the update to fail.

.Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: The Windows Update Troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix many common Windows Update errors. To run the troubleshooter, go to Settings ; Update & Security ; Troubleshoot ; Windows Update.

.Check the system files: If any system files are corrupted or missing, it can cause the update to fail. To check for and repair corrupted system files, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type "sfc /scannow". This will scan your system files and automatically repair any issues.

.Clear the Windows Update cache: Sometimes, the Windows Update cache can become corrupted and cause errors. To clear the cache, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type "net stop wuauserv", then type "net stop cryptSvc". Next, rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder to "SoftwareDistribution.old", and rename the "catroot2" folder to "catroot2.old". Finally, type "net start wuauserv" and "net start cryptSvc" to restart the services.

.Perform a clean boot: A clean boot can help eliminate any third-party software or services that may be interfering with the update process. To perform a clean boot, go to Start ; type "msconfig" ; select "System Configuration" ; select "Selective startup" ; uncheck "Load startup items" ; select "Services" ; check "Hide all Microsoft services" ; select "Disable all" ; click "OK" ; restart your computer.

.Reset the Windows Update components: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the Windows Update components. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands, pressing Enter after each one: "net stop bits", "net stop wuauserv", "net stop cryptSvc", and "net stop msiserver". Next, rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder to "SoftwareDistribution.old", and rename the "catroot2" folder to "catroot2.old". Finally, type the following commands, pressing Enter after each one: "net start bits", "net start wuauserv", "net start cryptSvc", and "net start msiserver".
