Wizardry 8 Complete Playthrough (Play 04) Spamming Training Spells
Once the hybrids get to lvl 5 or so (last play) they get access to spells. Things like energy blast arent particularly useful. Instead I look at training spells, stuff like light, magic screen, armor plate and especially heal wounds. They can be cast outside of battle, so while bryan the samurai may want to use his swords in fighting, outside gotta waste time training. Games that boost skills by doing stuff instead of just xp leave themselves up to exploit. In fact, for games like Final Fantasy 2 Japanese, beating up your own guys to power them up is preferable to actually playing it. Morrowind is another good example, jumping off ledges to hurt youself to improve jumping, learning on point in a skill, then buying the rest to get max on a level up etc. As you try to "game" it, it naturally leads to repetitive or otherwise silly gameplay loops.
Here resting and casting spells like light over and over or leaving spells purposefully on short timers is the way to go. Also, and I dont know if its in this play or the next two, but theres a coffin the monastary that causes poop gas damage. So heal it up and then open it again. This levels up the divine magic realm, but also your main specialization, which is what Im really after.
It seems really stupid, but it makes all my crappy guys into wizards who can fight too.
Run into a conga line of rats. Over and Over. I didnt plan on long 2 hour plus plays, it just kinda starts working out like that.
