Doom may have really opened up the First Person Shooter Genre, but it was Wolfenstein 3D that introduced it. A little bit more simplistic then Doom and with more of an Arcade feel, Wolfenstein was a necessarily step for ID to eventually design Doom for sure.

It's too bad though that controversy followed them regardless of what First Person Shooter they made...
