Wolfenstein: The New Order || Moon Base || Story Driven First-Person Shooter
A fast paced FPS with a good story, and some unique levels
Be warned, I have a bit of mixed feelings on this game, I would NOT suggest buying this at current retail price $59.99
+ Story Elements, very interesting story where Nazi's win WW2 and take over the world with futuristic tech
+ Great Variety of Levels, air, land, sea, sewers, prisons, subways, buildings, etc.
+ Very Mature somewhat horrifying grotesque scenes like almost being incinterated in a furnace of dead bodies
+ Great Graphics
+ A Half-Life "vibe" where it alternates between traveling through light puzzles / platforming elements with no combat, to other areas where you would think it's a Call of Duty campaign
+ The cutscenes are very cinematic like an action movie
+ Great leaning behind cover system so you can lean out while still being behind cover
+ The Giant Laser Walker was a pretty exciting boss
- Some repetitive story elements (get caught / captured escape, caught, escape, caught escape)
- The Health System... basically your health doesn't regenerate past 20, so you constantly have to look for health / armor, this would be okay however enemies seem to be extremely accurate and even when trying to poke your head out behind cover you will get hit a few times, making some battles much harder than they should be.
- For some "odd" reason you start each mission with no weapons, armor, or anything of use besides a plasma cutter or a knife and are supposed to find weapons. This doesn't make sense considering you have a command base filled with supplies, and is quite annoying since many missions are limited on ammo.
- Not enough variety or types of weapons, you mainly use an assault rifle through the majority of the game
- Your "Team" or the people you work with don't help you much at all, and tend to constantly force you to volunteer for these insane suicidal solo missions, and are just like "good luck" ...
- I sometimes felt like this game should have had Multiplayer, some campaign missions look like great arena maps
- Limited Replayability (the game is 7-12hours long depending how slow you go and isn't something I'd expect anyone to be replaying unless you want to try on harder difficutly)
- Sometimes it was hard to tell if I was damaging an enemy or not. There are parts with fully armored mech-suit guys, and big robots where I'll unload and it "seems" like I'm not doing any damage whatsoever, and then it'll randomly blow up. Some enemies do seem to have weak points but it's hard to tell where they are or what you need to do.
- Switching weapons is a hassle and takes more time than it should, especially later on in the game when you are switching between like 5 different guns.
- Where is Hitler? There is several references to Hitler he's never seen in this game...
I know I'm nit-picking on the negatives, and I DO think this game is good and definitely worth playing if you are a fan of first person shooter campaigns with an interesting story
[Update: I finished the game (actually played through it about 1.5 times) and wanted to add that the ending was far too uprupt and left me feeling disappointed]
