Wonder Boy - Master System & Game Gear versions side by side comparison / split screen video
Side by side comparison of the Sega Master System and Game Gear versions of Wonder Boy or Super Wonder Boy (Japan) and Revenge of Drancon (USA) as it's also known. Quite why Sega altered the name for some of the home system releases is a bit of a mystery.
The "Super" subtitle for the Japanese, Mark III version likely comes from the fact the home version has two additional rounds not seen in the arcade version along with a new character "Ronnette" who takes you to the bonus stages.
The Sega Game Gear version is a direct port of the Master System version. There are only a few minor changes between versions like the location of the health bar on screen and the placement of some dolls like the one on round 1 area 3. Another change is on round 1 area 2, were you see Wonder Boy walk passed the cave at the end of the level instead of entering it, level colours have also been adjusted to suit the Game Gear screen. The Game Gear version is considerable harder due to the smaller game area.
