FILMMAKER BIO:

Timothy Troy, Director, and Dan McGuire (writer/editor) - Chicago, IL

- How long have you been making movies?
Tim: 15 years

- Favorite horror film?
Tim: Poltergeist
Dan: Hellraiser

- Location where short was filmed?
Chicago, IL and the suburbs

- Inspiration for the short?
Dan: While I wasn’t the first to imagine an organic computer, other stories had always disappointed me. Then I hit on the idea of a computer virus compatible with the human brain, and the madness and distortions of reality that would result. That idea eventually evolved into “Abi”

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Tim: I’m a Spielberg devotee for life, but a more recent filmmaker would be Mike Flanagan. I really admire how he uses the camera, and how he interweaves character and story with theme
Dan: Alex Garland. I’ve also always been inspired by the writing of Charlie Kaufman. I seek out films that tie reality up in knots and leave you thinking long after the credits have ended.

- Why did you get into making horror movies?
Tim: I’ve been a nut for monster films since I first saw Jaws, and there’s no more visceral connection with an audience than horror brings (except maybe comedy).
Dan: I believe horror to be the root of all drama. The best dramatic scenes in films of any genre almost always lean on the language and techniques of horror.

- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
Tim: I’d love to make a Dracula film.
Dan: I’d like to make The Mummy be an actual horror movie again.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
We’re currently working on a brand new series of short films, so please subscribe over at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCClEbJ5Bk7x_1YgX6w_Uywg to stay in the loop!

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Tim: The incredible support given to indie filmmakers! This is a channel that is clearly by and for people who love indie horror.

Bret Dorman, Austin TX

- How long have you been making movies?
15 years

- Favorite horror film?
Halloween

- Location where short was filmed?
Austin, TX - New Republic Studios

- Inspiration for the short?
John Carpenter, Giallo films, and youtube conspiracy videos

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
James Wan.

- Why did you get into making horror movies?
Ever since Jaws and Halloween scared me as a kid and gave me nightmares, I've been chasing that high ever since.

- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
Critters. (Charlie teams up with the Critters to get revenge on the townsfolk who made fun of him. The Critters just make fun of him in Critters-ese. The Brown family has to stop them.)

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
Necromancer Podcast. We review Rom Coms and Horror movies, then remix them. Pitch the rom com as a horror and the horror as a rom com.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Every short I've seen is incredibly unique. And they range from silly horror to really scary horror!
