I have not yet figured out how to use only borrowed units to farm on Lima Expert, but am able to use only one of my units, plus a borrowed unit, to take down Lima Expert and gain all three reward slots.

The net number of cans is a little over 4k, which is a little over 1k more than Lima Hard. The difference is that you do use up one unit's stamina, which can be charged for 9 coins.
