Worlds smallest wavetable? The Serdaco Mc Fly prototype (VLSI VS1053B)
Hello Friends, today I have something special for you. It is a wavetable module from 2020, it is tiny, and it is a prototype, one out of 10 precisely. It is the result when you give a chip from Finland to a guy from Belgium who knows how to make a wavetable module with it. It is the McFly from SERDACO! And isn't it a nice artwork? A Fly. Maybe to show how small it is, or maybe just an allusion to its general midi sample quality. Of course it is not comparable with a Dream blaster X2, and that is not what it's intended to be for sure. It is weird stuff for the people like us, people who love every kind of pc sound hardware. I'm fascinated by this multi purpose DSP (which is a mp3 decoder/encoder at first) from VLSI and the fact that they have integrated a fully General Midi compilant wavetable synthesizer! According to the manual there also is a spartializer option to enhance the sound stage. I don't know if it is activated or not, but with headphones you'll notice a great stereo separation and it is possible to locate the different instruments quite well. Community might know that I like stuff like this, and I am very grateful for the honor to get one! I think its strange sound fits to the strange Analog Devices FM very well, so I decide the AD1812 give it a piggyback.
