I hate to say this, but the One-on-One mode feels more like a warm-up for the Royal Rumble, then a mode on its own. Despite being supposed to work your way to the World Championship, it's surprisingly easy. You can't lose even if you wanted to.
In the beginning, I tried to showcase as many maneuvers and techniques as possible, but that was unnecessary basically, as you can simply punch and kick your way to victory.
Timing your strikes correctly isn't even that crucial, as you'll somehow come out on top in 99.9% of exchanges regardless. Overall, it's a very disappointing mode where your skills are not put to the test.
