A depressed man in the past, suffering from alcoholism, he resided in Pelican Town, trying to scramble some money from his job at local corporation’s supermarket. His wage was low, which only fueled his mental condition even further.
He dreamed, if he could turn the life around him, to become a farmer – he had a soft spot for hens. And maybe be a decent guy overall.
While with the help of a new farmer he got rid of the alcoholism, his dream wasn’t supposed to come to life. Pelican Town was one of the first terror missions in 2015 alien invasion. A majority of populace was murdered before XCOM came to the rescue, but Shane managed to save his goddaughter, Jasmine, and a son of his local neighbours, Vincent. Along with other, unlikely survivors of the town, he was evacuated by the secret organization.
In the future, in now-alien world, Shane was battling with another depression, caused by his inability to do something to save the town and his aunt. But Jas and Vincent, being now his adopted children, helped him to struggle through the mind crisis.
In 2035, Shane finally got the chance to get back at the aliens that destroyed his town. With Jas and Vincent now being young adults, Hart had lots of free time and opportunity. And he decided to put them to good use.
He has a special bond with hens. He likes Jas. He is furious at mention of corporations.

A Pelican Town blacksmith, Clint was hopelessly in love with the spiritual tailor, Emily Green. Sadly, the crush was one-sided, because he couldn’t bring himself to say the necessary words needed to impress her. He spent his existence inspecting ores from local mines and quarry.
During the invasion, he was the only one who thought about getting himself armored. It gave him a chance to survive stray plasma shots (and indeed he did get hit). Blasting through the wild fire, he was devastated to find Emily turned into a zombie by Chryssalid. With the Farmer, Clint had to kill the love of his life another time.
This entire situation turned Clint bitter, with lots of tension between him and the Farmer for not saving Emily in time.
After the invasion Clint went on his own adventure, using his blacksmith skills to craft some weapons for himself from found alien alloys. Never forgiving the aliens for what they’ve done, he joined XCOM at the first available opportunity.
He loved Emily. He now loves the smell of fresh guts of aliens. He hates his insecurity.

A purple-haired daughter of a shopkeeper (debatable) and a gardener, Abby, despite running at odds with her father about this, is a tomboyish girl striving for adventure in dark places. She, funnily enough, was the first friend of the Farmer that arrived in Pelican Town.
During the invasion, the was away from home, having sneaked into the forest to search for mushrooms. When she got home, it was a really hard surprise for her to find her house in fire and parents dead. With great difficulty she managed to save some people out of the combat before being rescued by XCOM.
In 2035, she is now an expert Resistance swordswoman that frequently takes covert operations to kill any important alien targets. Just as they flayed her parents, she would flay them herself. No compromises. XCOM is a means to an end anyway.
She likes adventure and her parents. She has a crush on the Farmer. She disliked being in arguments. She absolutely hates being told to behave like a normal girl.
